I make art as evidence that there is something meaningful--perhaps redemptive-- in being human. I work with various materials but gravitate towards paint and canvas. My work is about disconnection and connection in our relationship to the natural world, to society, to others, and to ourselves. It is an exploration of the intangible nature of reality and the subjective experience of the individual caught in their own quest for meaning.
I was born in the Great Plains state of Nebraska. As a child, I marveled at the beauty and mystery of nature. I revered the large, deeply furrowed cottonwood tree in my backyard, and delighted over the monarch migration that filled the neighborhood with brightly colored butterflies every summer. When I wasn't engrossed in nature’s art, I was creating my own, through various mediums.
I am inspired by many of the same things that inspired me in childhood: nature, dreams, and human complexity. My interest in existential and interpersonal concerns is reflected in the portraiture of individuals contemplating their private and shared experiences.
I graduated from the University of Nebraska in 2009, with a Bachelor of Studio Arts degree. After substitute teaching for over a year, I traveled to Thailand for a teaching opportunity that proved very inspirational. I graduated from the University of Nebraska in 2009, with a Bachelor of Studio Arts degree. After substitute teaching for over a year, I traveled to Thailand for a teaching opportunity that proved very inspirational. In 2012 I had the opportunity to live and work on organic farms, first in North Carolina, and then in Oregon. I learned so much about natural building, planting and harvesting, and being part of an intentional community.
In Omaha I taught art classes at the Artroom, a small local business. I have worked in a variety of mediums, although I gravitate towards painting.
I am currently living and working in Portland, Oregon where I am pursuing a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling. Here, in Portland, I am inspired by the natural beauty of trees and mountains, as well as the unexpected, interesting beauty that I always find in a city.
